'We don't hire on skills we hire on attitude'

To all job seekers who read my post, I am sure you have heard recruiters, or employers tell you they hire on attitude, rather than on skill. With a positive attitude potential employees can be taught.

Does this exist in theory or in practice? If I had to guess I would say in the former only. I know of so many candidates who are rejected from jobs because their resumes do not match the recruiters advert specifications word for word.

Candidates are not given a chance to project positivity, enthusiasm or charisma. Having worked in solution sales I know personality counts, it is often the 'character' who sells not necessarily the academic.

There are candidates wondering why they have no personal correspondence with recruiters. Whilst I acknowledge recruiters are often inundated with resumes there are no excuses for poor customer service. When a candidate calls for feedback his/ her queries should be addressed.

In order to place a good candidate in the right job, the job seeker should have a positive attitude. Bad attitude leads to high company turnover, low drive and little productivity. People with a positive attitude yet low skill set may not be able to perform, so employees need to seek out the middle ground.

To hire on both attitude and aptitude, requires passion and commitment, which can be revealed easiest in person. Whilst a smile may take a candidate a long way such people need to be trainable. With a background in technology I know that some companies are using software as a means of looking for candidate IQ matches, which in my eyes is not necessarily the best solution since EQ (emotional intelligence) stands for something.

When we meet people regularly, we get to know and understand them and that is why I am committed to the idea of bringing recruiters and candidates together frequently. I want to do away with the frustrations that both candidates and recruiters are forced to deal with by bringing both parties together in a comfortable setting.

With a growing network, I would like to encourage candidates and recruiters to sign up with me now.

I am an open networker.
